Electrical Engineer – Own Power and Control Systems for Advanced Space Platforms!

El Segundo, CA | On-site

Opportunity Summary

A venture-backed space technology startup with active government programs is building next-generation propulsion and spacecraft power systems designed to support high-performance missions in low orbital environments. The company is growing quickly and expanding its technical team to support rapid hardware development, flight readiness, and system integration. As the Electrical Engineer, you will be the primary owner of spacecraft electrical hardware across the stack, developing power electronics, high-voltage systems, and embedded control boards that support advanced propulsion architectures. This is a highly visible role within a small engineering team where you will design, prototype, and qualify electronics that operate in demanding orbital conditions. If you enjoy taking real hardware from concept through laboratory testing and into flight applications, this position offers both technical challenge and meaningful ownership.

About Us

We are an early-stage space engineering startup focused on propulsion, spacecraft power systems, and advanced electrical control hardware for both government and commercial missions. Our team works across plasma systems, embedded electronics, power conversion, and space systems integration, moving quickly from design into hands-on testing and validation. Engineers here work across disciplines and have a direct role in shaping the technology as we scale our flight hardware programs.

Job Duties

• Design power electronics and control systems supporting spacecraft propulsion and related subsystems

• Develop high-voltage converters, switching units, and power distribution architectures

• Build embedded control boards and sensor interfaces to support system behavior and monitoring

• Prototype circuitry, perform bring-up testing, analyze performance data, and iterate designs

• Write embedded control software or automation scripts in C, C++, or Python

• Conduct reliability analyses for launch and on-orbit environments

• Collaborate closely with propulsion, avionics, and mechanical engineering teams

• Support qualification testing including vibration, thermal vacuum, cycling, and EMI or EMC evaluations

• Prepare documentation, design packages, and review material for internal and external stakeholders

• Assist with manufacturing readiness including fixtures, vendor engagement, and production test procedures

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field

• 3+ years of experience in power electronics, high-voltage systems, or embedded control hardware

• Hands-on experience developing analog and digital circuits for demanding applications

• Proficiency with Python or C++ for embedded or automation development

• Experience working with microcontrollers, instrumentation, and hardware interfaces

• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostics, and lab testing ability

• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and collaborative startup environment

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to propulsion systems, high-energy electrical hardware, or plasma technologies

• Experience supporting ruggedized or flight-intent electrical hardware

• Familiarity with PCB layout tools such as Altium, KiCad, or OrCAD

• Understanding of spacecraft power architecture or avionics integration

• Prior work in small engineering teams with end-to-end hardware responsibility

Why Join Us

• Direct ownership designing the electrical backbone of new spacecraft systems

• High-impact role as the dedicated Electrical Engineer on a small and growing team

• Opportunity to work across propulsion, avionics, and spacecraft integration

• Fast-moving environment with real visibility into mission outcomes

• Equity participation and growth potential as programs expand

• Strong medical, dental, and vision benefits
