Electrical Engineer – High-Speed Systems & Hardware Architecture!

Gardena, CA | On-site

Opportunity Summary

A venture-backed hardware startup is building advanced optical systems designed for high-performance applications at scale. The team is focused on translating complex technology into production-ready hardware, with a strong emphasis on signal integrity, system performance, and manufacturability.

This role is suited for an experienced Electrical Engineer who can take ownership of electrical design from concept through production. You will lead architecture, design, validation, and system-level debugging of high-speed PCB assemblies while developing the infrastructure required to bring products into scalable manufacturing. This is a hands-on, high-impact role working closely with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.

About Us

We are an early-stage engineering team developing integrated hardware platforms that combine optics, electronics, and advanced packaging. Backed by strong funding and experienced technical leadership, the company is focused on delivering high-performance systems that can scale efficiently into production environments.

Job Duties

  • Architect and design complex multilayer PCB systems for high-speed hardware, including power distribution, high-speed interfaces, control circuits, and debug access
  • Define electrical system architecture and make trade-offs across performance, signal integrity, thermal constraints, manufacturability, and testability
  • Lead signal integrity and power integrity strategy, including simulation and margin analysis prior to fabrication
  • Own board bring-up, validation, and system-level debugging, developing repeatable workflows for production use
  • Design and build evaluation platforms for new components, including silicon, optics, and interconnect technologies
  • Define validation strategies for critical high-speed interfaces and ensure compliance with performance requirements
  • Develop automated test infrastructure and firmware flashing workflows in partnership with firmware and manufacturing teams
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs meet DFM and DFT requirements, supporting yield, test coverage, and serviceability
  • Analyze production data and failure modes to drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to internal standards, documentation practices, and design review processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience designing high-speed hardware systems through production release
  • Strong experience with schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout tools such as Altium or equivalent
  • Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and high-speed interface design
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDRs, and advanced debug tools
  • Proven experience leading board bring-up and resolving system-level hardware issues
  • Experience working closely with manufacturing teams and supporting production readiness efforts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate in fast-paced environments
  • Willingness to support demanding build and test schedules when needed

Preferred Experience

  • Background in optical, photonic, semiconductor, or high-performance computing hardware
  • Experience developing automated test infrastructure for production or characterization environments
  • Familiarity with firmware flashing and debug workflows such as JTAG, SWD, or ISP
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical programs
  • Scripting experience for test automation or data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools
  • Experience with SI and PI simulation tools such as HFSS, SIwave, or HyperLynx
  • Experience with HDI, rigid-flex, or RF PCB design
  • Familiarity with EMC and EMI design practices and compliance testing
  • Experience with configuration management, PLM systems, or engineering change processes

Why Join Us

  • Equity participation and performance-based incentives
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents
  • Paid parental leave and flexible PTO policy
  • Access to a 401(k) retirement plan
  • Relocation support for candidates moving to the Los Angeles area
