Senior CNC Machinist – Build Mission-Critical Composite Hardware at a High-Growth Defense Startup!

Hawthorne, CA | On-site

Opportunity Summary

We are hiring a Senior CNC Machinist to take ownership of day-to-day machining operations inside a fast-moving defense manufacturing startup. This team is advancing a proprietary composite manufacturing process that allows complex, high-strength components to be produced faster and more cost-effectively than conventional methods. You will be the go-to machinist responsible for programming, setup, operation, and optimization of CNC equipment supporting both prototype and early production hardware. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on shop environment, enjoys solving real machining challenges, and takes pride in producing high-precision parts that directly support national defense applications. If you enjoy tight tolerances, clean setups, efficient cycle times, and building shop standards from the ground up, this is a high-impact opportunity to grow with a scaling team.

About Us

We are a venture-backed defense manufacturing company focused on reshoring advanced composite production to the United States. Our team has demonstrated next-generation composite components in demanding aerospace and defense environments and is now scaling manufacturing capabilities to support broader mission-critical programs. Backed by strong technical validation and industry support, we are building a modern, high-performance shop culture centered around speed, precision, and accountability.

Job Duties

  • Optimize feeds, speeds, and toolpaths to reduce cycle time while maintaining surface finish and dimensional accuracy
  • Read and interpret CAD models, technical drawings, and GD&T requirements
  • Troubleshoot machining issues on the floor and adjust programs or setups as needed
  • Develop and standardize fixturing methods and repeatable shop processes
  • Maintain tool libraries, manage tooling inventory, and support procurement of cutters and consumables
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measurement tools to ensure compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, high-accountability shop environment
  • Communicate clearly with engineers and leadership regarding job status, timeline risks, and machining constraints

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience
  • Strong experience operating CNC mills and lathes in a production or prototype environment
